What factors Affect the Purchase of Best Kids Binoculars?

When you are looking for a great pair of binoculars for yourself, it is hard enough. When they are for your children, it is even more difficult.

The younger your children are, the less likely you are to want to spend money because you know that the set is not going to be looked after properly.

At the same time, though, you want something decent that will get your kids excited and wanting to learn more.

And you don’t want something that will fall apart the first time your kids use it. The options that we have discussed above strike a good balance in terms of cost and actual value.

They are all durable and will be able to take a fair amount of punishment overall.

When shopping for the perfect pair, here are some other things that you need to take into consideration.

Magnification

Generally speaking, when buying for your child, eight or ten times magnification is more than enough.

They will never really need a lot more magnification than this, and there are some negatives to the more high-performance options when it comes to your kids.

For starters, the better the magnification properties, the lower the field of view usually is. This could leave your kid missing out when it comes to tracking moving objects.

Also, the higher the performance of the pair, the more likely they are to have a lot more components. This makes them heavier, which is not such a big deal if you are an adult.

If, however, you are a young child, it means that your arms will tire faster and you are more likely to battle with shaking lenses. This, in turn, makes it harder to focus.

Lower magnification usually also lets in more light and so is better in areas where light s not fantastic.

Field of View

This means how wide the image is that your child can see on the screen. Again here, we need to emphasize that the higher the magnification, the smaller the field of view.

Now, while that may be great for an adult focusing on one specific item, it makes things more difficult for your child.

If you want your child to get maximum enjoyment out of their new toy, you need to focus on getting a set with lower magnification capabilities. There will still be tons for kids to enjoy with these.

Comfort

Think in terms of how big or small your child’s fingers are. Are they easily able to get a grip on the pair? How comfortable is that grip going to be? What if their hands are all wet and sweaty? Will they be able to hold onto them?

A rubberized grip is ideal because it has some give in it. Remember that a younger child especially may grip them extra-tight. Rubber is ideal for this because it has a little give.

If rubber is not an option, do consider getting a grip that has texture to it as well.

Finding a set that allows you to adjust the width of the barrels is ideal because it makes it possible for the child to adjust it perfectly to their needs.
For smaller children, a simple wheel in the center makes zooming in or out a lot simpler.

Size

Size should also be considered when shopping for your child. You need a set that will fit their faces, and this means looking for something that is either designed specifically for children or that is compact in nature.

A small or medium set is the best idea. Again, consider the size of your child’s hands – you want something that will fit comfortably.

Weight

This boils down to comfort again. The glasses should be lightweight enough for your child to hold up for quite a few minutes. It is also a good idea to get a set that has a neck strap or wrist strap so the child can more easily carry the set.

Good neck and wrist straps also reduce the possibilities of the pair being dropped too far or lost easily.

Lens Distance

While it is not essential to have a set of adjustable arms, this is a good idea. The more the set can be adjusted, the longer it will remain useful to your child.
If you have adjustable sets and can get away with it, this will also allow children to share one set of binoculars between them.

This is an extremely important feature because it can have such a big impact on how the glasses fit.

Price

Consider the child’s age and character when buying these. You want a set that can stand some abuse, especially if you have a younger child.

You don’t want something that is so expensive that you cringe every time the child takes it out, but you also don’t want the very cheapest pair on the block either because these will break pretty fast.

Consider this – if you need to replace them every two or three months, those really cheap options work out a lot more expensive in the long-term.

As with any child-related purchase, the price is always an important factor to consider, as you don't want to waste money on binoculars that are easily broken.

What Do Those Numbers Mean?

So, you see a set that says “8 x 30”. What this means is that the magnification possible is up to eight times. The higher number in the series refers to the size of the lens. Usually, the higher this number, the greater the field of vision you would have.

Binoculars are a great way to teach kids some valuable lessons and get them interested in exploring the world outside. Find the perfect option for your kids, and they are something that will fast become a treasured possession.

Some Interesting Facts about Kids Binoculars

For most people, a set of kid’s binoculars is simply a set that is cheaper. It is not designed to last as long and is not as powerful as an adult set. In this post, we look at some interesting facts about your kid’s binoculars that will convince you to pay a little more attention when choosing them.

Introduction

So, what is it about these kid’s toys that you need to know? Let’s have a look.

What you didn’t know about kid’s binoculars?

Multi-Coated Optics Provide Better Colors

The optics are the area where images are viewed. In a better set of kid’s glasses, these are multi-coated so that color integrity is maintained a high-quality image is produced.

Low Cost Does Not Mean Junk

Obviously, you do get what you pay for, but if you choose a reputable make, you can save money and also get a quality product. Will these glasses be a good substitute for your own? In a pinch, they'll work, although the fit won't be great.

They do provide a decent quality image, though. The cost-saving is as a result of having fewer features rather than using a low-quality product to start out with.

Factors you must watch out for?

Lower Magnification

You do need to make sure that the magnification is set at no more than eight times. The better the lens, the weightier it is going to be. Also, the higher the magnification and the more components, the heavier the set will be.

This can be a problem, especially for smaller kids. This could result in too much shake for the kids to get a good view of the subject.

A set that has lower magnification allows in more light and so your child will have a better experience even when lighting conditions are less than ideal.

Interpupillary Distance

This is the measurement from the optics themselves to where the children put their eyes. When choosing a pair for your kids, look for models that allow this to be adjusted. That way, your child gets the perfect results for their eyes.

Wide Field of Vision

Kids are not as easily able to focus in on what they are looking for straight away. This could make things like bird-watching very frustrating for them if they do not have glasses with a high field of view.

A problem at higher magnifications is that the field of view is more limited in general. This means that kids might miss out on following items that are moving at higher speeds.

Conclusion - Facts about kids binoculars

A set of children’s binoculars from a reputable make are designed to give your kid the best possible viewing experience, without weighing them down with features that they are never likely to use.

It is a good idea to look for a good set as this will last your child a long time. Features like toughened construction that is more resistant to bumps and falling are things that you need to consider.

All in all, though, you want a set that your kids will be proud of. Something that opens up a whole new hobby for them and that let’s them see the wonder of the world up close.

DIY Kids Binoculars! A Craft Your Child Can Learn Easily

Getting your kid interested in bird-watching from an early age can be a great outlet for them. It’s a hobby that encourages them to get out and about in nature and is very educational as well. You can make it something of a game for them, and they will have a lot of fun. And, best of all, they are not sitting glued to the TV screen.

The earlier you can start them off looking for birds, the better it is. But, who wants to hand over an expensive pair of binoculars over to a young kid? They are bound to drop them and damage them, so it's not a great idea to give them real binoculars when they are young.

That's where this project comes in. You get to spend some quality time with your child, and they end up with their very own set of binoculars. They can choose how to decorate their set and have fun with you making them. Then, when you are out, you can have them look at the birds outside so that they can start birding as well.

Want to take the illusion one step further? Create a small notebook that has pictures of birds found in your area. That way, if they see one of the birds in the book, they can just tick it off.

Making the Binoculars

You will probably have everything that you need at home already.

Materials

  • Three empty toilet paper tubes
  • Something to make a hole in them
  • Scissors
  • A hot glue gun and the sticks of glue to use in it
  • Duct tape – stick to plain black or silver if you like, or change it up with a pretty colored roll or paint
  • Yarn to match the duct tape or paint

DIY Kids Binoculars | Step By Step Instructions

  • Start by taking two of the toilet paper tubes and covering them completely with duct tape – inside and out. You don't want to tape over the openings, but cover as much of the rest of the tube as you can.
  • If you are using paint instead of duct tape, paint the tubes now. The duct is recommended because it does make the rolls more durable and a little more waterproof. However, it is easy enough to make yourself another set if the need arises so this is not such a huge issue.
  • Cut a piece about three-quarters of an inch in length off the third tube. Cover this section with duct tape as well. This time, it doesn't matter if you do cover over the holes on either side and it can actually enhance the effect.
  • Cut off a small section from the 3rd paper roll and cover it with tape too.
  • Now it is time to heat up the hot glue gun. It is best to keep your child far away during this stage as the glue can cause some nasty burns. Glue the smaller piece onto the side of one of the larger rolls and then glue this piece onto the side of the other roll as well.
  • Reinforce the join with duct tape if you are having problems getting it to stick.
  • Make a hole for the yarn on the outside of each of the binocular arms and then thread the string through. Tie it in place and you are done.

Vortex Razor AMG UH-1 (Codename: Huey) Preview

Vortex Razor® AMG® UN-1 HueyVortex Optics have revealed a sneak peek of their Razor® AMG® UH-1. Code-named Huey, this holographic piece of technology is weapon mountable, and on the right is the first picture publicly released.

The Razor AMG UH-1 sight consists of an aluminium chassis and features far fewer moving parts when compared to more traditional holographic sights. This makes for a more durable piece of technology.

Power comes from the included CR123A battery, but can also be from running LFP CR123A’s. What I really like, is how these can be recharged on-board, through the use of the waterproof micro-USB port that can be found on-board.

What makes this sight stand out even more, is that there is virtually no forward signature meaning the shooter is the only one to see the new EBR-CQB reticle. This is unlike any other holographic or red dot sight on the market.

Vortex Razor AMG UH-1 Price and Launch Date Rumours (unconfirmed)

Neither the pricing or the launch date is yet to be confirmed by Vortex Optics, but the rumours doing the rounds suggests a price of $499 and a launch date in January 2017.

My Ultimate Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Review

Whether you golf or hunt, there are hundreds of different rangefinders to choose from. Featuring technical specifications more advanced than the first NASA spaceship, it can be incredibly tough to pick the right rangefinder.

This is where my ultimate review of the Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 comes into play. I will be discussing everything you need to know about this rangefinder from Bushnell.

The Bushnell Yardage Pro 450 has been on the market for quite some time, but don’t think it is long in the tooth.

Not by any means.

It is an effective rangefinder, and can be used at distances of up to 999 yards, with a very good 320ft field of view at 100 yards.

To be honest though, I have found that it becomes hard to use outside of 200 yards. This wasn’t a big problem for me, because I use it when I play golf. And when I am more than 200 yards out, I am not too bothered about accurate yardages.

If you need a rangefinder accurate for those larger distances, I recommend you check out the newer model, the Bushnell Sport 850 4x 20mm 1-Button Operation Compact Laser Rangefinder.

Stick it close

Imagine yourself in your Sunday fourball, standing over the ball. It all comes down to your approach on the 18th. Somehow you just can’t decide whether it is a 7 or 8 iron to stick it close to the pin.

You whip out your Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Rangefinder, find the flag, and now you know it is the perfect 8 iron distance.

With full confidence that you have the right club in your hand, you make a good swing with nice tempo, and….

BOOM!!!

7 feet to the pin, baby!

Your partner drowns the putt, and the skin is yours. But you know the money doesn’t really matter. Making that shot, with all the pressure on, in front of your competitors, that is the stuff that dreams are made of!

At less than $200, the Yardage Pro Sport 450 packs an impressive list of features.

Is the Pro Sport 450 right for you?

If you are looking for a rangefinder to use on the golf course, and your budget is limited, you will be hard pressed to find a better unit than the Pro Sport 450.

Sure, it has some limitations, but you can’t beat that price tag. This unit is one of the best rangefinders for the money available today.

Let me know if you decide on buying one, I would love to hear your thoughts.

The definitive Bushnell TRS-25 Red Dot Riflescope Review

Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope, 1 x 25mm (tilted front lens)Bushnell is a well-known name in the optic industry, and is one of my favourite brands. I can still remember my granddad’s very heavy Bushnell binoculars falling on my big toe while stargazing.

This was easily 25 years ago. Optics, and rifle scopes have come a long way in the last two decades, and some great advances have been made recently.

With the TRS-25 Trophy Red Dot scope, Bushnell has again pushed the boundaries. That is what their marketing material says, anyway.

Let’s find out if that claim holds up.

Easy on the wallet

First up, let’s get one thing straight. You simply can’t compare this product with something like the Aimpoint PRO Patrol Rifle Optic. The TRS-25 comes in at less than a 150 bucks, while the Aimpoint scopes are typically around the $400 mark.

Having said that, this product works incredibly well, and is one of the best rifle scopes for the money I have come across.

Set and forget

Well, almost. Across the board, reviewers of the TRS 25 Red Dot Riflescope agree that once this sight has been zeroed, you are good to go. Sure, you might want to do a checkup everytime you are at the shooting range, but this sight rarely needs to be re-zeroed.

If you clean your rifle at regular intervals, and you should be doing so, a remount will most likely require you to zero the sight again.

What I don’t like about the TRS25

I would have liked to see a riser included, and would even be willing to pay a little more just for saving me the hassle. But then again, a riser is barely $10 (I like the UTG Medium Profile Riser Mount with 3 slots).

And to be fair to Bushnell, if they were to include a riser, they would probably get more complaints about the riser, than the scope itself. And that wouldn’t be fair on this nice piece of equipment.

Another thing that I have to mention, is that the battery life isn’t that great. I have found that it didn’t take long for me to get used to double checking whether I had turned it off when not in use.

So, who is the TRS 25 for?

If you are a regular shooter, and you have a need for a solid product that doesn’t break the bank, the Bushnell TRS25 is the rifle scope for you. In fact, I would go so far as to say that, in my humble opinion, this is the best rifle sight under $150 available today.

What should I do next?

Head on over to Amazon.com, and read some of the user reviews. You will see that this product has a very solid rating of more than 4 stars, and that even experienced shooters enjoy this rifle scope.
